Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is the future of international broadcasting and allows Encompass to offer its customers the ability to broadcast thousands of miles in high-quality audio with one single transmitter.
Supported by Encompass, DRM is an international digital radio standard designed by broadcasters in cooperation with transmitter and receiver manufacturers. Using a similar technology to DAB, it is a high-quality digital replacement for analogue radio broadcasting, such as medium wave and shortwave. When used on traditional AM frequencies, DRM can deliver multiple high-quality audio services over long distances and cover very wide areas. DRM also allows the transmission of data alongside the audio content, or multiple transmissions (e.g., different languages), on a single frequency.
Geographically large and populous countries like India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia and South Africa are choosing DRM as their domestic standard for digital switchover of radio services. This allows you to reach these audiences with Encompass’ powerful DRM transmitters, broadcasting digital content thousands of miles.
DRM also allows for data to be broadcast alongside audio, meaning it has many applications outside traditional broadcasting.
