The BBC Middle East Relay Station (also known as the A’seela transmitter site site), in the Sultanate of Oman, is a BBC overseas transmission facility operated and maintained by Encompass. It provides highpower shortwave (HF) and medium wave (MF) broadcasting and serves as a strategic transmission hub supporting delivery into the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and parts of South Asia.
The Encompass team delivers endtoend operations and maintenance, covering daytoday technical operation, planned and reactive maintenance, and the upkeep of site infrastructure required to maintain service availability. We combine incountry capability with specialist support to keep critical transmission services on air in demanding conditions.
The site operates in a challenging coastal/desert environment with high winds, airborne salt spray and abrasive sand ingress. These conditions accelerate corrosion on exposed structures and increase maintenance demand on external plant and infrastructure, requiring proactive inspection, protection and renewal activities.
